Sony will discuss its implementation of the e-VTR, the first professional video recorder with a built in FTP and HTTP server. The e-VTR outputs video/audio as Material Exchange Format (MXF) files, a proposed SMPTE standard, enabling a flexible exchange of audio/video content throughout a TCP/IP network. Since MPEG IMX VTRs have the capability of playing back all ½ inch SD formats, existing video assets can be converted to MXF files for exchange within a network. Applications and unique workflow solutions will be discussed. File transfer from VTR-to-VTR and VTR-to-server will be demonstrated. Ingest from tape to a NLE server is now possible via a TCP/IP network.
Steve Sarafian is the NE Sales Support Engineer for Sony, responsible for broadcast VTRs and Servers.

Our Hosting the 2005 SMPTE Advanced Motion Imaging Conference
Another topic of discussion during the business portion of this month's section meeting will be the opportunity the Atlanta Section has to host the SMPTE Advanced Motion Imaging conference in early 2005. This will be an excellent opportunity for the section but will require volunteer commitments from at least 20 members. We will be looking to reach a decision on this matter very soon.
If you cannot attend the meeting, but would like to volunteer or find out more about what is involved, please contact Dave Siegler.
