HD Motion Imaging - A Hierarchy of Acquisition Formats
PROGRAM BY:

There is presently a broad range of options for originating HD motion
imaging content in the digital domain. A hierarchy has emerged based on
image format size, associated lens, and recording format.
While this is good news in terms of digital content creation -- it is also
fraught with confusion with respect to the relationship between the
anticipated performance and the associated specifications
of each system.
The many aesthetic attributes of a moving image are separately quantifiable
"dimensions" ( contrast, sharpness, color, exposure latitude, etc.) that
are created within the object image of the HD lens. Collectively, they add
up to an enormous amount of analog information presented to the HD camera.
It is the role of the contemporary HD camera to transform all of this into
the digital domain -- the "shoot" process.
The necessary sampling and digitization process within the camera must be
highly cognizant of the individual image parameters and how they relate to
the capabilities of the human visual system. This produces an
extraordinarily high date rate that must then be recorded -- the image
"capture" process. What separates one digital HD acquisition system from
another is the management of this image information within the lens, the
digital camera, and the digital recording format. This presentation will
address these relationships.
