Topic:
The Evolution of Master
Control
Peter Wharton
Director of Master Control and Channel
Branding
Miranda MTI
Among
the many changes accompanying the growth of DTV has been a significant
evolution in the scope and functions of Master Control. Centralized
operations, multi-channel operations, dramatically increased use of
branding, changing transport and delivery technologies for content and the
broad implementation of automation are just some of the factors that have
driven this evolution. And the changes are not finished yet. Continuing
advances and standardization in file transfer methods, video over IP
technologies, content storage and playout systems and automation interfaces
along with increased demand for multiple uses of the same content mean that
master control requirements five years from now are likely to be as
different as they were five years ago.
Peter Wharton, Director of Master Control
and Channel Branding products for Miranda MTI will discuss the challenges
and potentials that these changing realities are bringing to the Master
Control environment. Wharton will describe some of the emerging business
models and delivery systems that will require expanded notions of master
control and some of the anticipated technologies for serving these new
models.
