Topic:

Multipath in 8VSB Transmission

Eddy Vanderkerken
Rhode and Schwarz

It only took aproximately .001 seconds after the ATSC announced the decision to propose 8VSB as the transmission method for DTV in the US for the debate over this to begin raging. One focus of this debate has been the effects of multipath on 8VSB receivers. Eddy Vanderkerken of Rhode and Schwarz will explain the different types of multipath propagation that exist. He will also discuss how these can be simulated and quantified in the 8VSB transmission world.

Please note that there have been some recent changes in parking and security at Turner. The 10th Street parking entrance has been closed. All visitors must enter off of Techwood Drive. There will be people to provide directions and escorts through security.

Location:

Multipurpose Room
Turner Entertainment
1020 Building
Atlanta, GA 30318

Easier to use web address:

This web site can now be reached with the address atlsmpte.arfunk.com, without the "www" and with no slashes. (This is in addition to www.arfunk.com/atlsmpte — just another way to reach the same site.)

News of Related Organizations:

The Peach State Chapter of the Society of Broadcast Engineers is reorganizing and plans to become more active. They now have a web site at www.broadcast.net/~sbe5/ where you can find more information.

The Order of the Iron Test Pattern has reorganized, with new levels of membership available such that those with as little as 15-minutes experience now qualify. The Order's Creed: "Through snow and glitches, dropouts, ghosts and now cliff-effect, we survive — undaunted." Those interested in the order can learn more at its web site.

Program Suggestions:

Is there a topic that you would like us to cover or want to present? Do you have new equipment or a facility you would like to show off?

We are always looking for hosts and presenters for our meetings.
