Niche Video Products and Ensemble Designs present:

Making the Transition to Digital Television

Despite how easy it may have looked to Congress, the transition to digital television is not a simple process. The television industry, which for many years had analog composite as a universal standard, is now faced with a confusing array of directions, uses, and methods. Facilities such as broadcasters, who must make this transition smooth and evolutionary face particular challenges – the path from point A to point D is not perfectly straight, and it is not well marked with hazard signs and mileposts. This presentation looks at some of the particular issues faced by and solutions open to this engineering process.

Speaker: David Wood, who founded Ensemble Designs in 1989, has been working in the television industry for 27 years. Ensemble's initial product, the TC400, was a remote control system for the ProcAmp functions in VTRs and TBCs. That product has been kept up to date through out the last ten years with control enhancements and interfaces to new machines. Ensemble's product line also includes the Serial Box line of signal converters, the MultiBuffer networkable video store, and the Catalyst CV component digital switcher. At NAB this year Ensemble Designs introduced a new signal processing and distribution product, Avenue.

Suggestions:

The SMPTE Chapter is seeking monthly program host locations outside of Atlanta to address the needs of all the members. Anyone wishing to provide a program in other city, please contact Dan Burnett. [email protected],Fax 770-854-8981

From The Webmaster:

I recently sent a message to the Section's internet mailing list asking for replies from those wishing to remain on the list. Many of you did reply, and I thank you. But while I was in the process of updating the list, at the worst possible moment, the hard drive on my computer at work was erased. I've lost both the old list and all the replies. But I've repaired (I hope!) the form for automatically subscribing to the mailing list. Please take a moment to re-subscribe, below. Thanks!
