February Section
Meeting:
On February 10th, Turner and Rhode and Schwarz hosted the Section meeting. The program topic was “Multipath in 8VSB.” Eddy Venderkerke of Rhode and Schwarz began with an overview of the causes of signal fade including the causes of multi-path. He described the four types of multipath - Rayleigh Path, Ricean, Log Normal and Doppler shift and the differences between them. He also described the types of hardware that are used by receiver manufacturers to simulate the different types of multipath in order to find ways to overcome the problem. Finally, Eddy discussed the methods for measuring multipath and reflections of a transmitted signal. He also brought a test station to be used for demonstrating the measurement set on local signals.
Once again, we had a well attended session and the Section would like to thank Dave Siegler, Rick Ackermans and the Turner organization for their continuing hospitality to the Atlanta Section.
Section Elections:
Be looking for ballots for new officers for the Section. These should be arriving in the mail soon. There are several qualified candidates thanks to the work of Jim McKechnie and the Nominating Committee. Please be sure to return your ballots with your selections.
