Pixelmetrix
Topic:
Measurement and Analysis of Digital Signals
Phil Dubs
Pixelmetrix
Digital signals are pervasive in the modern broadcast and video facility. These signals include SDI, HD-SDI, MPEG Transport Streams and RF signals such as 8VSB and various flavors of QAM from satellite. The ability to monitor the health and status of these signals at many points in the signal path is a critical component of maintaining the validity of the signal and for isolating areas of the infrastructure where problems occur. Mr. Phil Dubs of Pixelmetrix will discuss the methods of monitoring all of these signal points, content verification and will demonstrate the DV-Station, an integrated tool for preventative monitoring of digital networks. Pixelmetrix is a Singapore based technology company founded by members of the HP MPEG group.

October Meeting Report:
Ryad Kahale of Vizrt presented the October program on Efficiency in Graphics Workflow. Kahale described the current situation as one of multiple purposes for much of the material produced by a station or production facility. The method presented for gaining efficiency in managing materials and workflow is to separate the two components of what is commonly
referred to as ‘Graphics’. Kahale referred to these two components as Content - text and pictures - and Graphics - how any particular content is presented or how it looks. By building and storing reusable templates for graphics and by maintaining separate storage of text and picture content, the two components can be stored, manipulated and shared using centralized databases. Discreet Content can be routed for use in multiple Graphic templates. This allows repurposing and multiple use to be done easily and efficiently. It also allows updating with new information to be done easily in real time. This capability is particularly useful in applications such as election coverage, sports, financial news and other areas where rapid display of constantly changing data is required.
